It’s time to explore a replacement
Once a system passes ten years, energy loss and repair costs climb fast. A modern air source heat pump or ductless system is the moment the rebates work hardest for you.
2026 is the year to act
Under Maryland’s Utility RELIEF Act, EmPOWER rebate levels are set to shrink starting in 2027. Today’s incentives are among the most generous the program has offered — and rebates must be reserved by your contractor before the program deadline.
Endless hot water, a fraction of the
energy.
An ENERGY STAR® heat pump water heater works like a refrigerator in reverse — pulling heat from the air to warm your water. If your tank is over 10 years old, replacing it now beats a cold-shower emergency later, and Maryland’s Home Performance with ENERGY STAR® (HPwES) rebates make the switch pay off fast.

Lower energy bills
A heat pump water heater uses a fraction of the electricity of a standard tank — about $550 a year in savings for a family of four.
Fast payback
Between the energy savings and the HPwES rebate applied up front, the upgrade pays for itself in just a few years.
Peace of mind
Replace on your terms — planned, clean, and rebate-optimized — instead of scrambling the day your old tank floods the basement.

What “electrification” means: replacing fossil-fuel appliances — furnaces, boilers, and water heaters that burn gas, oil, or propane — with heat pumps and heat pump water heaters. These projects tend to see the biggest energy savings, and so tend to earn the largest rebates.
Best rebates are available now
Maryland’s EmPOWER incentives are set to shrink starting in 2027 under the Utility RELIEF Act. Locking in a 2026 project — reserved before the program deadline — means capturing today’s higher amounts while they last.
