Home Performance with ENERGY STAR Audits (HPwES)
Maryland – $100 for Qualified Residents
The HPwES program links Maryland homeowners that are interested in learning about the root causes to comfort and inefficiency connected to licensed contractors that are experienced, trusted and properly certified to diagnose the issue and recommend the correct measure to improve the situation. A properly conducted home energy audit through the ENERGY STAR program is set up to educate the homeowner so they understand the root cause of the issue and understand the correct treatment to achieve results. The program is designed to create outcomes that enhance a home’s energy performance, overall comfort and indoor air quality.
In order to participate in the Home Performance with ENERGY STAR program, a contractor must be properly licensed, certified and qualified to perform comprehensive home energy audits. As a result of these high standards, you can be sure that when you choose AGHS to get a home energy audit, that you will be in the hands of a professional that will be able to properly assess your home and make the recommendations that will benefit you the most.
Comprehensive home energy audits include air leakage testing (blower door testing), thermal imaging, health and safety testing, insulation inspection and an attic and indoor ventilation inspection. Included in the program fee of $100 for the audit is up to fourteen LED lightbulbs, faucet aerators and efficient-flow showerheads, water heater pipe insulation, “smart” power strips and a neat adapter for the shower that are all designed to save you money right away!
After everything is finished up, usually in about three hours, the auditor takes the information and begins the process of preparing a comprehensive reporting package that includes information about your energy usage, a detailed summary of testing results and findings as well as a detailed work scope that addresses the items that you and your auditor discussed at the time of the audit.

Blower Door Testing – Call for Quote
The process of getting a home energy audit includes testing your home for costly air leaks in places such as the attic, crawl space or basement. There are several places around the house that air leaks occur that can be discovered with the use of a blower door test. A blower door test is a standard test included in a comprehensive home energy audit in the state of Maryland, however the blower door test can be a practical solution for several needs as a stand alone test. Some examples include:
-Third party inspections of air sealing work performed previously
-Discover the source of annoying drafts around the different areas of your home
-Check the air leakage levels of windows or doors around the home
-Check do-it-yourself air sealing
Installation & Retrofit Services
Attic Insulation & Air Sealing
AGHS’s team of trained insulation technicians can attack holes, gaps and areas of missing insulation with air sealing and blown loose fill cellulose. Adding insulation to an attic can regulate temperatures inside your home, lower energy usage and improve indoor air quality. We have insulation solutions for every application including:
-Loose-fill cellulose and loose-fill fiberglass to cover all cracks, crevices, twists and turns in most attics. Loose fill insulation also creates the best insulation to surfact contact to provide effective treatment that gets results.
-Fiberglass Batting insulation in a variety of R-Value sizes for the application that it is needed. Some examples of where rolled insulation is used would be in kneewalls, open wall bays where insulation is required and some areas in an attic may required the need for fiberglass batting such as smaller thermal bypasses and skylight cavity walls.
-Rigid Foamboard insulation is a fantastic product that can be used to treat several different areas of the thermal boundary that will require both air sealing and insulation and also in places where simple one-part spray foam will not be an effective remedy. Blocking and sealing is a technique to fill in large gaps and voids with rigid foam and then use sealing (one-part spray foam) to seal the edges.
Crawlspace & Basement Insulation
AGHS is qualified to assess a crawl space or basement rim joist and recommend the proper solution for sealing and insulating the perimeter (area to outside) for better comfort, energy usage and indoor air quality. The foundation of a home is a key area to consider and attack when initiating a whole home insulation project. The basement and crawl space areas, if not properly sealed and insulated, can be a source of cold air infiltration in the winter and warm, humid air in the summer.
Finding a company in Maryland to take on small home projects can be a challenge sometimes. Insulation is a line of work that requires consistent drywall patching, light framing and other finishing work around the home. AGHS carpenters have the skill set and the tools to handle any smaller scale project. Example of projects we excel at are:
-Soundproofing walls/barriers using insulation and building principle knowledge to lead the way
-Drwall projects including repairs and smaller needs
-Light carpentry including building and framing walls, framing for support, rotten wood damage and finishing work (molding, casing, trim)
